If a sash isn’t sitting quite right — often the case where heavier replacement glazing, such as double glazing, has been fitted to an older window — simply slide a makeweight down the cord to rest on top of your existing sash weights, then trim it to length until the counterbalance is exactly right. As lead is the traditional material used in period sash windows, it’s the natural choice where historical accuracy matters, and its density means you can add meaningful weight without needing much extra room in the box.
